 Dr. Uma Kumar, MD, DM, FRCP (Edin) Dr. Uma Kumar is Professor and Founder Head of the Department of Rheumatology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. She completed her MBBS and MD from MLN Medical College, Allahabad, and joined AIIMS in 1996, becoming faculty in 2001. A distinguished rheumatologist and researcher, Dr. Kumar pioneered the ‘Rheumatology Day Care’ concept in India (2012) and established AIIMS’s Department of Rheumatology in 2015, providing advanced care for arthritis and autoimmune diseases. She has guided 60 postgraduate and doctoral students and completed 52 research projects with national and international collaborations. Recognized as an eminent Indian woman scientist by UNESCO (2022), Dr. Kumar received the National Award for Science Communication (2019) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (2022). She has delivered over 1,000 health talks, published extensively on rheumatological disorders, and serves on multiple national committees including NAMS, DST, and DCGI, advancing rheumatology education, research, and public health awareness across India.
