Dr. R. Meenakumari, MD (Siddha) is a distinguished Siddha physician, academician, and healthcare leader with over 37 years of combined clinical, teaching, and administrative experience. Currently serving as Medical Director and Principal of Sudha Saseendran Siddha Medical College & Hospital in Kanniyakumari, she has held prominent positions including Director of the National Institute of Siddha, Chennai, and Director General (Additional Charge) of the Central Council for Research in Siddha under the Government of India. Dr. Meenakumari earned her BSMS from Government Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai (1988), and MD in Gunapadam (Siddha Pharmacology) from Government Siddha Medical College, Chennai (2004). Her expertise spans Siddha pharmacology, clinical research, medical education administration, and AYUSH policy development. She has been instrumental in initiating the BSMS undergraduate program at NIS, establishing over 25 institutional collaborations with premier institutions including IIT-Madras, AIIMS, and ICMR, and achieving NABH accreditation for Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led significant Siddha clinical trials and prophylaxis initiatives. Notable achievements include spearheading the SWRAC campaign—a 3,333 km national awareness rally—and setting a Guinness World Record for simultaneous Varmam therapy administration to 567 individuals. Dr. Meenakumari serves as Chairperson of the Siddha Sectional Committee at the Bureau of Indian Standards and is a member of the Board of Governors, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine. She has published 25 books, authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Siddha. Her contributions have been recognized with multiple prestigious awards including the Ayush Excellence Award from the President of WTCC and the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
