Dr Ghazala Javed

Dr. Ghazala Javed serves as Assistant Director (Unani) at the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. With nearly three decades of experience, she coordinates technical work, including planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of research and development across 24 peripheral institutes, focusing on fundamental research, drug standardization, quality control, and related activities in Unani medicine. She is a trained researcher, bioethicist and has an expertise in IP and protection of traditional knowledge. She was deputed as a visiting scholar to NCNPR, University of Mississippi, Oxford, and represented India many times at WIPO, Geneva, on the Inter-Governmental Committee for Protection of Traditional Knowledge. She contributed to the Nagoya Protocol meetings and co-developed the National Position Paper on Protection of Traditional Health Knowledge with Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her accolades include a Gold Medal and Certificate of Merit from Jamia Hamdard, a PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights, and a WHO Fellowship. Dr. Javed has authored/co- authored over 90 publications, featured as the “Face of Unani Medicine” in a book on India powerful women, and participated in more than 200 scientific forums.
