Non Communicable Chronic Diseases– Prevention & Management through AYUSH
Non-communicable diseases are a diverse group of chronic diseases. They are defined as diseases of long duration, generally slow progression and they are the major cause of adult mortality and morbidity worldwide. Non communicable diseases are identified by WHO as a category that includes: diabetes and metabolic syndrome, endocrine disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions, sense organ diseases, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive diseases, genitourinary diseases, skin diseases, musculoskeletal diseases, congenital anomalies, neoplasms and oral conditions.
Non-communicable diseases (NCD’s) or chronic diseases of lifestyle (CDL) are the result of a combination of genetic,
physiological, environmental and behavioral factors. People of all age groups, regions and countries are affected by NCDs.
Children, adults and the elderly are all vulnerable to the risk factors contributing to NCDs, whether from unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and exposure to tobacco smoke or the harmful use of alcohol. These diseases are driven by forces that include rapid unplanned urbanization, globalization of unhealthy lifestyles and population ageing. Crucial and high impact NCD interventions can be delivered through a primary health care approach to strengthen early detection and timely treatment.
AYUSH systems – Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy and Sowa Rigpa – can play an important role in preventing and combating NCD’s. AYUSH systems understand the functioning of human body as a whole. AYUSH offers various methods to cure and prevent Non-communicable diseases (NCD’s) by following lifestyle modification and dietetics, medications and therapies. The goal of 2nd International AYUSH Conference & Expo - Dubai is to bring to light AYUSH as an authentic and reliable health care system for the Non Communicable Chronic Diseases. AYUSH is prevention-oriented, as well as curative, towards creating a disease-free society at a cost effective way.
